The city itself

Modern Nevşehir took shape in the 18th century, when the village of Muşkara, birthplace of the Ottoman grand vizier Nevşehirli Damat İbrahim Pasha, was rebuilt; the new town became Nevşehir, meaning "new city". The mosque complex he founded, home to the Kurşunlu Mosque, and Nevşehir Castle above the town are its main historic landmarks.
